This course is based on teaching Bronze IV and V to sailors. The candidates will be on the water teaching others while being guided by Learning Facilitator. Skill progression and a more complex breakdown of the skill are expected as well as a more in depth detection and correction.
Successful completion of the Bronze Sail Coach course will enable the coach to teach Bronze Sail IV & V programs in his/her club. Training will be provided to enable the coach to:
- Coach in a professional manner
- Plan appropriate drills/activities for land and water
- Design an emergency action plan
- Provide a safe environment on land and on the water
- Coach a structured land lesson
- Coach a structured on water session
- Use effective interventions and teaching methods
- Detect skill errors
- Correct skill errors
- Communicate athlete progress to athlete and parents
- Plan a LTS Bronze Sail IV/V course curriculum
The coach will be being assessed on a number of the criteria covered on the Fundamental Course & LTS White Sail Coach Clinic. Coaches that successfully meet the standard after evaluation will be considered “Trained” and those that do not will remain “In Training”. To become “Certified”, the trained instructor has to pass an evaluation.
Trained and Certified White Sail Coaches are able to teach Bronze Sail IV and V.
Prerequisites:
- 16 years of age or older
- CCG Pleasure Craft Operators Card
- CYA Bronze 5 Certificate and Seal
- CYA Fundamental Course
- Certified as a White Sail CoachFirst Aid (Minimum Emergency Level)
- Swimming Award (Boat Rescue, Bronze Cross, Bronze Medallion, NLS OR Sea Cadets Small Craft Rescue Award)
