 Learn to Race Coach
 
Successful completion of the Learn to Race Coach Course will enable the coach to conduct Learn to Race programs in his/her club. Training will be provided to enable the coach to:
  • Coach in a professional manner
  • Plan appropriate drills/activities for land and water
  • Design an emergency action plan
  • Provide a safe environment on land and on the water
  • Coach a structured land lesson
  • Coach a structured on water session
  • Use effective interventions and teaching methods
  • Detect skill errors
  • Correct skill errors
  • Communicate athlete progress to athlete and parents

The coach will also be assessed on a number of the criteria covered on the Fundamental Course & LTR Coach Clinic. Coaches that successfully meet the standard after the LTR course will be considered “Trained” & those that do not will remain “In Training”.
 
LTR Coaches must be formally evaluated while coaching athletes in a LTR program, by December of the year after receiving “Trained” status. Coaches that successfully meet the standard after assessment will be considered “Certified” and those that do not will remain as “Trained”.

 
Prerequisites:
  • 16 years of age or olderCYA Fundamental Course
  • CCG Pleasure Craft Operators Card
  • CYA Silver VI Certificate and Seal, Learn to Race Certificate and Seal, or ability to demonstrate the advanced racing skills and knowledge
  • First Aid (Minimum Emergency Level)
  • Signed Coach Code of Conduct 
  • Swimming Award (Boat Rescue, Bronze Cross, Bronze Medallion, NLS OR Sea Cadets Small Craft Rescue Award
