The Race Coach Clinic develops candidates into Race Coaches. Course content includes:
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Fundamental Principles for the Advanced Race Coach
- Teaching Methodology
- Conditioning, Preparation, and Goal Setting
- On-shore Preparation for Racing
- Preparation for Starting and the Start
- The windward legs
- The leeward legs
- The run
- The finish
- Post-race analysis, Assessment, and Correction
- The Corinthian Spirit, Protests, and Appeals
- Seasonal Planning and Competition Management.
Coaches must be certified a minimum of two (2) years as a Blue or Bronze Sail coach or LTR Coach with a minimum of 600 hrs coaching experience at that level. (Note: participants will be expected to demonstrate competency in both double handed and single handed skills in this course).
Prerequisites:
- Be age 18 years or older
- CCG Pleasure Craft Operators Card
- CYA Gold VII Certificate and Seal or ability to demonstrate advanced racing skills and knowledge
- First Aid (Minimum Emergency Level)
- NCCP Level 3 Theory (if taken before Spring 2009) or the following 4 NCCP modules:
- Psychology of Performance
- Developing Athletics Abilities
- Prevention and Recovery of Injury
- Coaching and Leading Effectively
- Signed Coach Code of Conduct
- Swimming Award (Boat Rescue, Bronze Cross, Bronze Medallion, NLS OR Sea Cadets Small Craft Rescue Award
