 White Sail Coach
 
This course is based on giving the candidates time and guidance to practice the skills learned in the Fundamental course. The candidates will spend time teaching sailors in the class room as well as running on water drills. The focus is on skill progression, and error detection and correction.
The successful instructor will be able to do the following in a professional manner:
  • Plan appropriate drills/activities for land and water
  • Design an emergency action plan
  • Provide a safe environment on land and on the water
  • Coach a structured land lesson (using standardized lesson plans)
  • Coach a structured on water session (using standardized lesson plans)
  • Use effective interventions and teaching methods
  • Detect skill errors
  • Correct skill errors
  • Communicate athlete progress to athlete and parents
  • Plan a White Sail I, II and III course curriculum
Instructors who meet the standard after the assessment will be “Trained”, provided they have all their prerequisites completed and submitted. Those that do not meet the standard after the assessment will remain “In Training”. To become “Certified”, the trained instructor has to pass an evaluation.
Trained and Certified White Sail Coaches are able to teach White Sail I, II and III.
 
Prerequisites:
  • 16 years of age or older
  • CCG Pleasure Craft Operators Card 
  • CYA Bronze 4 Certificate and Seal 
  • CYA Fundamental Course 
  • First Aid (Minimum Emergency Level) 
  • Swimming Award (Boat Rescue, Bronze Cross, Bronze Medallion,    NLS OR Sea Cadets Small Craft Rescue Award)
  • Signed Coach Code of Conduct
